On Aug. 14, Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State began the construction of the long-abandoned Karatudu-Romi road in Chikun Local Government Area, 13 years after it was left unfinished.

During the ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday in Kaduna, Mr. Sani said the road was first given to a contractor during the time of the late Gov. Patrick Yakowa but stopped after he passed away. He called it an important project that will help the people of Karatudu and Unguwan Romi communities.

“Our government is putting rural development first, especially for places where the less fortunate live,” Mr. Sani said. He promised the road will be ready in eight months, adding that a good contractor has been chosen and will start work right away.

“We keep our promises. We don’t play tricks with politics. We focus on projects that people can see and benefit from,” he added.

Mr. Sani shared that his government has awarded over 83 road contracts across the state, with 31 already finished. He blamed some politicians for neglecting the area before, saying they are now coming back to gain political favor without doing anything useful.

The governor explained that the Karatudu-Romi project will include other nearby roads like Cemetery Road, Lusawa Road, School Road to Karatudu, and Jemaa Road. He also mentioned another ongoing road project from Keke to Makera, and Doka Mai Jemaa to Dan Hono in Kujama Ward, both in Chikun LGA.

Mr. Sani said the Water Intake Road from Unguwan Mai Gero to Narayi is already done and has been opened. He added that work will soon start on the road connecting Zenith Bank Roundabout on Kachia Road to the Flour Mill area, linking Chikun and Kaduna South LGAs.

The governor also said money has been released for the construction of the long-forgotten Television-Kaduna Garage-Sabon Tasha Road, which connects four electoral wards. According to him, the project will begin next week.
