On Aug. 19, the Jigawa State Government approved the release of N7 billion to pay Agro-Inputs Dealers and Service Providers for the 2025 dry season rice cultivation programme.

This step is meant to increase agricultural productivity and ensure food security in the state.

The announcement came from the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, after the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday in Dutse. He said the money will help speed up the 2025 Dry Season Rice Input Voucher System, which provides farmers with important farming supplies.

“In a bold move to strengthen food security, empower rural farmers, and ensure a bumper harvest, the council has approved this amount, adding to the N3,268,336,287.00 already paid back by agro-farmers,” Musa explained.

He added that farmers who joined the dry season rice programme last year have raised the total investment in the project to N10,330,522,777.00.

The commissioner highlighted that the state government is pushing its dry season rice farming efforts by providing and fully paying for resources like high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and chemicals to support thousands of farmers across Jigawa. He said this shows the administration’s commitment to making the state a top rice producer in Nigeria.

Musa also shared that the council has approved N365.7 million to build 4,600 tube-wells in key farming communities.
