FCT Minister Wike Launches Transit Way (N2) Construction with Two Bridges in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, kicked off the construction of the Transit Way (N2) on Oct. 3, 2025, designed to connect Wuse District to the Central Area through two bridges in Abuja. Speaking at the event, Wike said the project shows the administration’s commitment to improving Abuja’s road network and connectivity across districts, noting that no modern city can grow without world-class infrastructure.

“There’s no development in any city without a good network of roads. When all the cities are linked, you can then talk about modernization and investment,” the minister stated.

Wike shared that he first noticed the project site during an inspection around the T. Y. Danjuma Foundation axis and praised the private effort that started work on one end of the route. He added that the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) took over to extend the project fully to Wuse.

The minister promised to personally monitor the contractors to ensure timely completion, stressing that several key projects must be finished before President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office. He also revealed plans to intensify work in education and healthcare, with 40 schools set for total rehabilitation following the N2 road project. This adds to the 70 schools already under rehabilitation, of which 45 are completed.

“No sector will be left untouched by the directive of Mr. President. If you are in charge of a sector, you must sit up. This is about speed and commitment. My team knows that I call at any hour, and phones must be on 24 hours. That is the level of seriousness we require,” Wike said.

Dismissing criticisms of his administration’s style, Wike insisted that results are what matter. “All those who hate us are still using the roads, the water, and the street lights we provide. The only thing in our dictionary is work, work, and more work for our people,” he added.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the N2 Transit Way project, with its two bridges, as a milestone in reducing traffic congestion and ensuring smooth movement in the capital city. She called it a clear example of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda delivering real benefits to residents.

Mahmoud praised National Assembly members for their support in securing budgetary attention for the FCT. “Your role in ensuring that the FCT receives the needed budgetary attention and oversight is highly commendable. Today, we are witnessing the fruits of such partnership,” she said.

She noted that the N2 Transit Way project is expected to cut travel time between Wuse and the Central Area, while also boosting economic activity and investment confidence in the Federal Capital Territory.
