On Mar. 4, officials from Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria Division 7 Global carried out an inspection of the proposed site for Nigeria’s first military jetty.
The inspection took place near Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, where the new facility is expected to be built.
According to project officials, the planned jetty will help improve naval operations and logistics for the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies that patrol the Lagos coastline and nearby waters.
They explained that the facility will serve as a special base where different naval vessels can dock, refuel, and receive maintenance.
The jetty will be able to accommodate patrol boats, fast attack boats, and other maritime vessels used for security operations.
Officials also said the project is part of Nigeria’s wider plan to strengthen its local defence industry and reduce dependence on foreign military support.
Through the project, Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria Division 7 Global is working together with other government agencies to design and build the facility.
Authorities believe the new jetty will help improve coordination among security agencies responsible for protecting Nigeria’s coastal areas.
They also said the project supports the country’s plan to grow its defence infrastructure and increase local production of military equipment.
The military jetty is expected to be officially commissioned in June 2026.
Government officials say the project will not only strengthen national security but also create job opportunities and support economic activities in the maritime sector.
