Delta State Approves Over ₦400bn for Road Rehabilitation, Security Bases, Hostels, and Other Infrastructure Projects

The Delta State Executive Council has approved infrastructure projects worth over ₦400 billion for the construction, rehabilitation, and upgrading of roads and other facilities across Delta State.

The approvals were given during the council meeting held on Mar. 7, which was presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the projects will cover many local government areas in the state including Warri South, Warri South-West, Udu, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Ethiope East, Ethiope West, Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North-East, Ika South, Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East, Bomadi, Burutu, Isoko North, and Isoko South.

He explained that the projects are aimed at improving transportation, boosting economic activities, strengthening security, and improving connections between communities.

On security, Aniagwu said the state government approved the construction of a base for the Nigeria Police Special Protection Unit to strengthen security operations across the state.

The council also approved the construction of Police Divisional Headquarters in all 25 local government areas in preparation for the Federal Government’s proposed policy on state police.

According to the commissioner, the approvals are part of the government’s plan to improve infrastructure and strengthen security across the state.

Among the key projects approved is the rehabilitation of the Aghalokpe–SPDC–Adagbrassa–Aragba Road and nearby streets in Okpe Local Government Area.

The council also approved the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Okotomewo/Oviri Court/Adeje Road in the same area.

In Asaba, the state capital, the council approved the reconstruction of damaged sections of major roads and the cutting of a hill close to Asaba International Airport to improve road access and safety.

Other projects in Asaba include the construction of Asagba Palace Road, GBC Murphy Avenue, Chris Abudeyi Street, and Ogbeeshi Monochie Street.

In Sapele, the government approved the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Powerline Road and the construction of Tutulane/Obodokwu Road.

For the Warri area, projects approved include the reconstruction of Warri Internal Ring Road Phase Two, rehabilitation of the first 3 kilometres of the Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri Road, and construction of Orient Drive off the NPA Expressway.

Other works in the Warri axis include the rehabilitation of Enerhen Police Station Road, Aladja Avenue Road, resurfacing of River Road in Ekpan, and the construction of Old Okoko Road from Koko Garage to the Lagos Expressway Phase One.

In Udu Local Government Area, the council approved the rehabilitation of the Otu-Jeremi/Udu Road linking the Warri–Port Harcourt Expressway with the DSC Expressway, as well as erosion control works along the Ekakpamre and Ekrokpe–Usiefrun roads.

The government also approved the construction of internal and external roads around Udu Harbour Market, including Igbogidi Road, Udu Market Access Road, and Tipper Road leading to the Ethiope River in Obiaruku.

In the Ughelli axis, the council approved the extension of Imoniyame Road and Olori Road in Ughelli, as well as internal road projects in Patani.

Major reconstruction projects were also approved for Ethiope East and Ethiope West, including the reconstruction of Eku–Osubi Road Phase Two, construction of several streets in Abraka, and reconstruction of parts of the Jesse–Boboroko Road.

In the Ika area, the council approved projects such as the construction of Asuen Road in Owa-Ekei, Obi Ifeanayi Chukwu Road in Mbiri, and the construction and rehabilitation of the Ekuku–Agbor/Okpe–Abavo Road Phase Two.

For riverine communities, projects approved include the construction of Macaulay and Mitubiri Roads in Bomadi, internal roads in Odimodi and Ogulagha communities in Burutu, and the construction of the Torugbene–Ojobo Road.

In Isoko North and Isoko South, projects include the construction of Emese Road in Urude, reconstruction of Otor-Igho Township Road, and the rebuilding of the Oteri–Emede Road.

The council also approved road projects in Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West, including the construction of Ogbedigbo Afọr Road, reconstruction of Ebendo–Iyasele–Ashaka Road, and new access roads leading to the Kwale Free Trade Zone.

Beyond roads, the state government approved the construction of male and female hostels in state-owned universities, renovation of magistrate courts, and renovation of area and customary courts across the state.

The council also approved the construction of five judges’ quarters in Osubi, as well as prototype judges’ residential quarters in Asaba to improve the welfare of judicial officers.

Another approval was the completion of the Senate and Administrative Building at Delta State University in Abraka.

Aniagwu said the large number of projects approved by the council shows the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions, improving security, and providing modern infrastructure that will support development across Delta State.
