Ekiti State Government Awards N3.86 Billion for Aviation Staff Quarters at Agro-Allied Cargo Airport

On Sept. 4, the Ekiti State Government approved N3.86 billion for the construction of Aviation Staff Quarters at the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in Ado-Ekiti. According to a statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Value Orientation, Taiwo Olatunbosun, this was decided during the weekly Executive Council meeting in Ado-Ekiti. He said the project is part of efforts to ensure the airport starts operations successfully.

Olatunbosun explained that the state had already secured 14 residential flats, including six two-bedroom flats and eight three-bedroom flats at the GRA in Ado-Ekiti, for aviation staff. These quarters will provide a good living environment to improve staff welfare and productivity. However, the new purpose-built quarters within the airport’s external perimeter fence will follow standard industry practice in Nigeria. This will boost operational efficiency, improve security for airport facilities, and reduce commuting time and costs for staff.

The Special Adviser said the quarters, to be built by Messrs. CCECC Nigeria Limited, will have 40 residential units, including 32 self-contained apartments for junior and middle cadre officers, six one-bedroom apartments for senior staff, and two two-bedroom apartments for management staff. The project also includes external infrastructure, car parking lots, and a simple direct flame incinerator for solid waste management at the airport. The contract is set to be completed in four months.

The government also approved N418.9 million to buy seven Toyota Hummer buses and one Toyota Prado SUV for agricultural operations in Ekiti State. Olatunbosun said these vehicles will support the Bring Back Our Youths to Agriculture (BBYA) programme, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative that has empowered many youths since 2024. The vehicles will be purchased through direct procurement from Messrs. Tayodeji Hub Nigeria Limited and delivered within six weeks.

In addition, N86 million was approved for the construction of six 2,000-capacity poultry pens across three senatorial districts in Efon, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Emure, and Ikere LGAs. This project is part of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s efforts to transform agriculture through a PPP plan for poultry production clusters. The contract was awarded to Adebankpet Nigeria Limited with a six-week completion period.

Olatunbosun noted that Governor Oyebanji’s administration is fully committed to improving agriculture and infrastructure to benefit the people of Ekiti State.
