On Aug. 30, Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, flagged off the construction of the 10-kilometre Ndok Junction-Mbube-Okubushuyu Road in Ogoja Local Government Area to improve road networks across the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Ekumtak-Mbube, the governor, represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, said the project is part of his administration’s plan to connect rural communities, boost economic activities, and make transportation easier for residents. He noted that this will greatly improve their socioeconomic wellbeing.
He explained that this is only the first phase, with later phases extending from Mbube East to Utugwang in Obudu Local Government Area. Odey urged the contractor to follow global best practices and involve local labour, especially youths, to speed up the work, create jobs, and improve the lives of residents.
The deputy governor thanked the people of Ogoja and Cross River State for supporting Governor Otu’s administration. He promised that the government will continue working to connect every part of the state with good, functional roads.
Odey also praised Otu for keeping his campaign promises to the people of Ogoja and assured them of the government’s commitment to their support.
The Commissioner for Works, Hon. Pius Ankpo, spoke about the state’s limited resources and said the project is being done in phases to manage funds well. He added that the Ministry of Works will monitor the project to ensure it meets the approved standards. Ankpo also mentioned that over 12 kilometres of road rehabilitation are ongoing in Ogoja metropolis, showing the governor’s focus on connecting communities and developing rural areas.
Traditional rulers and community leaders at the event praised Governor Otu for his visionary leadership and the many development projects across the state. They promised their continued support and prayed for the success of his administration.
