Kano State Approves ₦6.9bn for Road, Drainage, and Development Projects

The Kano State Executive Council approved over ₦6.9 billion for various projects to improve welfare and speed up development across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, announced this after the council meeting at Government House in Kano on Jan. 1.

Waiya said the council approved over ₦859.2 million as compensation for structures affected by a five-kilometre road project in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.

He added that ₦358.5 million was set aside for storm water drainage in Kano Municipal, and ₦896 million for reconstructing a failed culvert in Kiru Local Government Area.

The commissioner explained that ₦2.6 billion was approved for Yandodo-Mai-Allo Road construction, ₦1.2 billion for a box culvert, and ₦431.7 million for the Entrepreneurship Institute’s graduation and empowerment programme.

Waiya also said the council approved ₦85.6 million for extending the water pipeline in Gwale, ₦285 million for classroom construction, and ₦157,689,000 for an anti-corruption workshop.

The council further approved sending four bills to the House of Assembly and implementing the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Manual. The bills are the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025, the Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025, the Kano State Education Bill 2025, and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Law 2025 (to rename the institution).

The meeting also recognised achievements with awards in digital transformation, leadership excellence, housing development, healthcare delivery, community development, and support for vulnerable groups.

Waiya added, “Additionally, development partners presented a skills acquisition training package and donated a 32-seater coaster bus.”
