Nigerian Law School Kicks Off 600-Bed Hostels Construction at Bwari Campus in Abuja

The Nigerian Law School started building 600-bed hostels at its Bwari campus in Abuja on Oct. 20.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma (SAN), praised the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for keeping his word to build new hostels for students at the Bwari campus.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Abuja, Prof. Chiroma called the event a “fulfilment of the promise made” by the FCT Minister to support legal education.

He remembered that Wike promised in December 2024 to include a 2025 budget allocation for 300-bed male and 300-bed female hostels for the school.

“The reason why we all gathered here this morning is the fulfilment of the promise made—the flag-off for the construction of 300-bed space hostels each for male and female students at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari,” the DG said.

Prof. Chiroma said the new hostels will help meet the school’s growing housing needs and improve student welfare.

He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the project and the Federal Ministry of Justice for its ongoing support.

“We are not taking this gesture for granted,” he said. “On behalf of the Council of Legal Education, management, staff, and students, I thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving this project.”

He also thanked the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Solicitor General, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba, for their steady help to the school.

Prof. Chiroma praised Wike’s work in growing legal education in Nigeria, pointing to his past support for law school campuses and justice projects.

“To many of us familiar with your antecedents, it is history repeating itself. The Graham Douglas Campus of the Law School in Port Harcourt, the Yenagoa campus, and provision of staff quarters and utility vehicles are legacy projects that will continue to speak for your developmental stride in Nigeria,” he said.

He called the FCT Minister “our great benefactor” and promised that the Nigerian Law School truly values his help and dedication to legal education.
