Kano State Approves ₦9.8bn for Road, Flood Control, and Renovation Projects Across State

On Nov. 1, the Kano State Government approved over ₦9.8 billion for various road, flood control, and renovation projects to improve infrastructure and residents’ living conditions.

The decision came during the 33rd State Executive Council meeting, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, shared the details while briefing journalists after the meeting. He said the projects show the government’s push to better roads and ease daily life for people.

Among the approved works, Waiya listed the installation of solar-powered streetlights at Kwankwasiyya City, costing ₦339,644,836.05, and the construction of hydraulic structures along the Kwanar Durba–Fammar–Konau–Kure Road in Kibiya Local Government Area (Phase II) at ₦207,174,230.95.

He also mentioned ₦277,452,289.48 for renovation and construction at the Audu Bako Secretariat (Phase II), and ₦393,334,675.71 for general renovation at the State Ministry of Works.

In addition, ₦219,951,530.82 was okayed for building a dwarf fence and entrance gate at a plot next to Gidan Fiat, Naibawa, Zaria Road, while ₦2,633,028,973.31 goes to the Dambatta–Gwarabjawa Road in Dambatta Local Government Area.

Waiya added that ₦810,824,310.98 was approved for installing road studs on selected roads in Kano Metropolis, and ₦388,517,336.52 for flood control at Baban Gwari Roundabout along Katsina Road.

“Additionally, the sum of ₦185,430,198.66 was approved for maintenance works along Karaye–Rogo Road (Damagari Phase II), and ₦2,471,436,590.12 for the supply and installation of 4-way intersection traffic lights across major roads in Kano State,” he said.

He further noted ₦135,324,750.00 for supplying and installing all-in-one solar-powered streetlights at Ado Bayero Square, New Road, Sabon Gari, and nearby areas.

Waiya revealed that the total approvals by the council topped ₦19 billion, covering sectors like Works and Infrastructure, Education, Health, Water Resources, and Renewable Energy.

“This government remains focused on transparency, accountability, and improving the quality of life for the people of Kano State,” the commissioner stated.
