Qatar has embarked on a massive housing project in the northwestern Nigerian state of Kaduna, as part of its Mega Economic City initiative. The project aims to provide 500,000 residential units for the local population, as well as boost the state’s economy and infrastructure.

The project was officially inaugurated by Qatar’s Ambassador to Abuja, Ali Bin Ghanem Al-Hajri, on Aug. 16 in the presence of Kaduna Governor Uba Sani and other dignitaries. The ambassador praised the governor for his vital support in facilitating the launch of the project, which he said reflects the strong bilateral relations between Qatar and Nigeria.

Kaduna is one of Nigeria’s most populous and diverse states, with a strategic location as a major trade and transportation hub. It also has a vibrant economy that relies on agriculture, manufacturing, and retail sectors. The Qatari housing project will enhance the state’s development and provide modern and affordable accommodation for its residents.

Governor Sani expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of Qatar and the Qatari-owned Sanabil Project for choosing Kaduna as the site of the Mega Economic City. He said that the project will create a business-friendly environment in the state, as well as provide world-class infrastructure and security.

“The Economic City will facilitate international trade while serving as a platform for local entrepreneurs and traders. It will also harness product value chain opportunities and improve economic growth,” he said.

The ambassador also revealed that Qatar has initiated various charitable projects in Kaduna, such as providing scholarships for children living in poor neighborhoods, distributing essential home appliances to low-income families, and drilling hundreds of boreholes for water supply in the 23 local government areas of the state. He said that these projects demonstrate Qatar’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s social and economic development.
