    Nigeria's correctional service is modernizing custodial centers by constructing additional facilities to address overcrowding and improve inmate welfare. With 77,849 inmates, 24,013 have been convicted, consisting of 23,569 males and 444 females. The government has already inaugurated a facility in Kano and is close to completing others in Abuja and Port Harcourt.
